Star City Casino Overview

Australia’s Star City Casino has undergone several name changes over the years and was originally called Sydney Harbour casino, and has recently been renamed The Star Sydney Casino. Star City Casino was and remains the second biggest casino in Australia, topped only by Melbourne’s famed Crown Casino. Star City Casino is brilliantly located in that it overlooks Darling Harbour and is easily accessible, as it’s on a major transport route and near the city.

The casino complex features seven restaurants, the 2,0000 seater Sydney Lyric Theatre, 2 gaming floors, 8 bars, more than 350 hotel rooms and 130 privately owned or serviced apartments. This means that if you choose you can check in and stay in the hotel, or you can opt for self-catering accommodation if preferred.

A Legal, Licensed Casino

Star City Casino is a legal operation that’s controlled and regulated by the New South Wales Casino Control Authority. The casino is actually the only legal casino in operation in New South Wales and at the end of 2007 it was granted an exclusivity license that will see it remain as such for the next 12 years.

Whether this license will be extended after the 12 year period comes to an end remains to be seen, but for now, Star City Casino has the monopoly on land based gaming and is incredibly popular with local players and visitors.

Casino Layout and Attractions

With two gaming floors, Star City Casino, or as its now known, Star Sydney Casino is easily able to cater to players of all preferences. The main gaming floor allows for general entry, whilst the Sovereign Room features high roller tables and is more of a VIP or Prive Lounge. In the Sovereign Room table bet ranges start from AUD25 and increase all the way up to AU75, 000, whilst in the Inner Sanctum bet ranges start at AU100 and increase to $500,000. These 2 rooms are only available to those who have been approved as members and the Inner Sanctum is often used as a venue for junket players.

On the main gaming floor players will find the 36 Degrees bar and Oasis Lounge and the rest of the floor is split into three main sections. Poker, Electronic games such as Video Poker and Pokies and Table Games make up the 3 areas and there are a total of 30 poker tables in play. Star City Casino has also added a sports bar and this attracts a number of punters, especially when there is a big game on.

Safety a Priority

Star City Casino always ensures its players are kept safe, and like most elite land based gaming venues makes use of CCTV to monitor the floor. All actions at the tables and electronic machines are logged and footage can be used to identify cheating, or to settle any disputes that may arise between players and staff.

Restaurants and Bars

With so many bars and restaurants under one roof its clear that Star City Casino has made an effort to cater to all tastes and preferences. There’s five star fine dining and an all you can eat buffet where one of the biggest attractions are the huge plates of prawns. Not all the restaurants are operated by Star City, some are independently owned, and the available selection of food is varied.

The 8 bars each have a different theme and some feature live entertainment on a regular basis. There’s also the marquee nightclub, should players want to take a break from the casino floor and enjoy a more party-like atmosphere.
